The Bemis Family
A Member of the Bemis Family of Fitzwilliam donated the following pictures to the Fitzwilliam Historical Society . All are unidentified so we cannot verify that all are members of the Bemis family. All we can add is that there had to be a reason these pictures were a part of the Bemis inventory at one time. We welcome any comments on them and hope you enjoy them.

1959 Gusty’s Child, Autobiography of Alice Tisdale Hobart
This is a letter written in 1959 by a descendant of Rebecca Nurse, who belongs to the Blodgett Family. Rebecca Nurse Nourse, age 71, was hung as a witch in 1692 at the height of the witchcraft hysteria. Many prominent members of the community signed a petition on her behalf and in fact, she was found not guilty at her very public trial. However, the jury reversed its verdict and she was found guilty. The accused witches were buried near the gallows. Rebecca's family dug up her body, in secret, and buried her at the family homestead in Salem Village, now Danvers MA.
