About the Society

Common looking east
Common Looking East, Fitzwilliam, NH

The Fitzwilliam Historical Society was organized in September 1961, with 128 charter members. Four years later the Amos J. Blake House became the property of the Society. Having this historic building as a museum enables us to see how our forefathers lived and how they coped with the problems of life in the early days of Fitzwilliam. It helps to fulfill the Society's goal of building pride and awareness in our town's heritage, and of making this heritage available to town residents and the general public.

Through Society efforts and the generous support of members and friends, with gifts of money and historic items, much of the house has been restored and furnished.

A special effort is made to collect early family and other records. We are always interested in donations that will shed light on how people lived in Fitzwilliam over the past 250 years.

In addition to maintaining an archives room and the regular museum exhibits, the Society sponsors programs, lectures, trips, and special exhibits throughout the year. The highlight of these events is the annual Antiques Fair on the Village Common that we sponsor each July.
